Circle, 2017, print on photography paper, 16"x16" each
Most of the college students keen to carefully plan their life ahead, and then sweat to pursue what are scheduled in their daily notes. However, someone could still be caught in the middle of remorseful past and uncertain future life at the moment. During my senior year, it is the very first time that I realized that I belong to the latter group. This series of work investigates my fluid feeling of compunction to the past, fear of unstable present, and hope for the future through usage of the collage. With an inspiration of Zen circle (Ensō), I transfer these twelve donut-shaped photo collages to represent the ideology of life, the state of mind and acceptance of imperfection as perfect. The pattern of tape that transformed from maps representing the places that I have been to – from China to America. This creation is a dynamic process of self-analysis, encouraging me to embrace the future journey with frightening uncertainties.
